READING- TERM 3 For reading this week we’ve been focusing on Note-taking and why we note take and how to note take. My understanding of Note-taking is finding the main and important parts/key words of a text that is relevent. Not every little detail in a text is relevent to your reading. Before you even start to note-taking it's important that you skim through your text first, so that you can find out main parts of it. We note-take so that we can learn new information and we can learn something related to something we're learning about. Date: 17/8/10 Today in reading we worked on Important and Interesting information. Miss Mattiacci gave us a part of a text and we had to highlight what we think the important and interesting information is. I felt a bit confused because I sometimes can't find out the difference between Important and Interesting information. I learnt that Important information helps us with Predicting, Clarifying, Questioning and Summarising, and Interesting information helps us with summarising and questioning. We are going to do more work tommorow but with a different text and hopefully I get to understand it more than I do now. Date: 18/8/10 In reading today we worked on NOTE-TAKING SKILLS. We looked at skills on how to note-take and the important bits of note-taking. Here are some things I've learnt so far about note-taking: Note-taking is recognising the main ideas and highlighting them, it's identifying what kind of infromation part of your text is relevant toyuor task, you can note-take in any way that your comfortable with, wirting the main bits of information into your own words (if possible), before you start to note-take you need to skim through the text first so that you can pull out key words and parts, finding out the main prupose of your text is also very important for note-taking, when your taking notes it's very helpful for you to record your own thoughts at the same time, most strategies for reaading include listening note-taking, having a clear purpose, selecting what is relevant to yuor task, using symbols to help you note-take quicker or abbreviatiions. All this information I learnt from 4 fact sheets on how to note-take. Date: 23/8/10 Today in reading since we were focusing on Note-taking for about a week we had an assesment on it. We are all each given facts on six pages on what is mapping and what it's used for. We all had to highlight importany information from that piece of text. On a piece of paper we had to write all the infromation that we highlighted. It's all due on Firday, this task is to prove who understands about note-taking and who doesen't. I really do enjoy this task because I don't just get to learn how to note-take but also learn new information about mapping. Date: 25/8/10
